2023 wrap up
Achievements, ups and downs
From a professional point of view, this year saw some amazing achievements.
Space Short
10 levels. 2 Bosses. No ads. No distractions. Can you beat it?
My game Space Short is out! Play it online here, or download from Google Play. This took longer than I expected (doesn’t it always?) and taught me more than I realized. I learned heaps about Unity, but also about game development in general, marketing, video editing and design.
The game is open source, you can check out the repo here.
First Pull Request Accepted
I created a mockable version of FlutterBluePlus, and had it accepted — my first accepted pull request! (I submitted pull requests before, but I guess the maintainers aren’t actively maintaining the repos anymore, as they’re still waiting).
Flutter Animations
I took a deeper dive into flutter animations this year:
- I created this awesome breathing video in Flutter. I know it helped children, including my own, deal with anxiety.
- I studied Flutter animations in a grid with a three-article series
- I studied slide-in animations
I also learned other things about Flutter, such as File I/O.
My site
I also created my own site, with Jekyll and GitHub. I learned a lot from it:
- How to convert code from Processing to p5js.
- How to create a contact form in a static site.
- I created a tool to convert int to byte arrays (and vice versa) online
There’s still plenty to do there, but this is a great start.
Traveler’s Prayer app
I published another app, that recites the traveler’s prayer for you (currently in Hebrew only). It was soothing and useful for me, both as a developer and a user.
So from this narrow viewpoint, it’s been a very productive year.
On a general level, this has frankly been a terrible year. I really hope that next year will bring us to better times with all people.
