The easiest way to record your screen

No installation required! Easy, simple and just works, including audio: RecordScreen.io

I do a lot of screen recordings with audio as a programmer — as a manual or a bug report or demonstration. And up until now, I either the used the built in Windows 10 recorder, or OBS. But last Thursday I was working on a Mac, and I found this gem: RecordScreen.io. Records the screen right from your Chrome browser. No installation required. Works on Windows and Mac.

Click Record → Choose if you want it to also insert your web cam in the lower left or not → Choose if you want to record your full screen or one window → Allow Chrome to use your microphone → Press start.

…And that’s it! To stop go back to RecordScreen and press Stop. It shows you a preview of the video, press Download Video → The video is saved as a webm file in your Downloads folder.

Two caveats: You must have the latest version of Chrome installed. And you must be in the https version, otherwise it won’t agree to record.

Happy Recording! (And to those who are celebrating, Happy Jewish New Year!)
